We have term limits for the President. We need term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court. I propose:
- The Senate should be limited to two six-year terms.
- The House should be limited to four two-year terms.
- The Supreme Court should have a 15 year term limit.
If elected, I pledge I will not seek re-election for a second Senate term.
For reference, twenty-three states (AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, ID, ME, MA, MI, MO, MT, NE, NH, NV, ND, OH, OK, OR, SD, UT, WA, and WY) passed federal congressional term limits at the state level. In 1995, a 5-4 U.S. Supreme Court decision in U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton ruled states cannot impose qualifications for prospective members of Congress stricter than those in the Constitution. These statutes are still on the books; however, they are not enforceable unless the Supreme Court decision is overturned.
